47. Are Popular Things Pop

Following up last weeks episode, Adrian and Austin discuss if popular things are for that reason pop. We start by talking about popular music vs pop music, and draw the line between the pop genre and what is merely popular. 46. Pop Goes Folk

Is pop music the new folk music? In this episode Adrian and Austin dig into the idea of folk music and what makes a song a folk song. From there we try and determine if pop music has become the new folk music. Finally, we look at talented pop artists such as Charlie Puth and determine if they are wasting their talents as a pop artist and what they could do to become true musical geniuses.

Adrian and Austin got to spend some time together this week in Boston when they went to the release tour of Hank Green's books, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. In this episode we discuss how the relationship between the author and the audience works and how knowing the author effects how you read the book. Finally, we talk about writing about personal things and whether or not this is good for creators to do. With the recent controversies surrounding Supreme Court justice candidate Brett Kavanaugh, Adrian and Austin discuss how something wrong in a persons past should effect their future. We talk about how there can be forgiveness with appropriate consequences without losing the hope of reconciliation. And finally we look at how there should be different standards for people's actions based on their position and power they hold.
